October 2026’s PlayStation Plus Monthly Games are F1 25, Hunt: Showdown 1896 and Earth Defense Force: World Brothers 2. Sony lists their claim window as October 6 through November 2, 2026. As of this page’s October 18 check, the window is still open. Check the selection shown for your own account region before adding anything.

The important action is to add the eligible monthly games you want to your library during the window. You do not need to install every title immediately just to decide which one to try first. Monthly games are also different from the changing Game Catalog attached to Extra and Premium.

The names, dates and platform labels come from Sony’s September 30 announcement. The advice below is an editorial way to choose between the formats, rather than a hands-on review or a promise that every account sees identical regional content.

The short list and the practical difference

Monthly game Sony’s listed platforms Starting question
F1 25 PS5 Do you want a racing game?
Hunt: Showdown 1896 PS5 Do you want a tense extraction-shooter format?
Earth Defense Force: World Brothers 2 PS5 and PS4 Do you want cooperative action, including a local split-screen option?

These questions help you choose what to investigate first. Open each product page for its full age rating, features and current access conditions. A one-line genre description is not enough to decide whether a game suits a particular child, group or accessibility need.

You may like more than one. Claiming an eligible title and deciding to install it are separate choices. Keep the installed library focused enough that you can find what you intend to play rather than turning a monthly benefit into a storage-management chore.

F1 25: investigate it if racing is the appeal

F1 25 is the racing option in this selection. If the attraction is driving, competition or following the sport, it is a natural first product page to open. Check the modes you care about and the current edition details rather than assuming every possible season update or extra is included in the base monthly offering.

For someone new to racing games, investigate the available assistance and difficulty settings before deciding that specialized hardware is necessary. A wheel is a separate purchase with its own space, mounting and compatibility requirements. Try the game with the supported controller setup you already own before building a costly racing corner around a first impression.

Think about how you want to spend an evening. A few familiar races and a longer career-style commitment are different routines. Choose the mode that fits your available time rather than feeling obliged to explore everything immediately because the game has arrived in a subscription.

Hunt: Showdown 1896: understand the session format

Sony describes Hunt as an extraction shooter involving threats from the game world and other players. That format deserves a closer look if you enjoy tension, coordination and the possibility of losing an encounter. It may be a poor fit for an evening when you want a relaxed activity with easy interruptions.

Before organizing a group, check the exact supported party arrangement and each person’s access. Have everyone install and update the correct version in advance if your connection makes that practical. Spending the entire meeting waiting for downloads is avoidable when the plan is clear.

Use ordinary gameplay footage and the official product description to judge whether the pace and demands appeal to you. A dramatic trailer is designed to concentrate excitement; it does not show every quiet stretch, menu decision or learning hurdle. Understanding the repeated activity is more useful than choosing by the most spectacular moment.

World Brothers 2: look closely at local play

Sony’s announcement lists two-player local split-screen and four-player online cooperation for Earth Defense Force: World Brothers 2. That makes it especially relevant if your immediate question is what two people can play on the same screen. Local and online player limits are different, so choose the arrangement you actually need.

For a shared television, check readability from both seats and make sure both controllers are charged. Do the first setup before your guest arrives when possible. A local game can be easier to start socially when nobody is learning account settings at the same time as the controls.

The stylized appearance does not replace checking the age rating and content information. Consider the person playing, their comfort with action and any sensitivity to visual activity. Cooperative support makes a game eligible for a type of session; it does not guarantee every pair will enjoy that session equally.

Claiming is different from downloading

Look for the monthly-game benefit on the current product page and follow the library-addition process for your eligible account. Check the confirmation and entitlement shown afterward. Do not assume that viewing a title, adding it to a wishlist or starting an unrelated trial performs the same action.

You can then choose what to install. If space is limited, start with the game most likely to fit your next session. Our storage guide explains your options, and deleting a game while keeping saves helps make room without confusing installations with progress.

Keep the access conditions in mind. A monthly benefit remains connected to the subscription arrangement; adding it is not the same as buying a separate license free of those conditions. Our Essential, Extra and Premium guide explains how to think about the different access routes.

The Game Catalog is another announcement

Extra and Premium’s Game Catalog additions are reported separately from the monthly selection. A title appearing in a catalog story does not automatically become a monthly game you claim under Essential. Likewise, a monthly-game deadline should not be used as the departure date for every catalog title.

When you see a headline about new Plus games, identify which benefit it describes. Then check the region, tier, availability date and game version. This small reading habit prevents a lot of disappointment when the console asks for a different plan than the one you own.

If one catalog game is the only reason you are considering an upgrade, compare that plan change with buying the game separately. Consider how long you expect to play and what happens if it leaves the catalog. A subscription decision should serve your routine, not simply respond to a headline.

Avoid buying equipment for a game you have not tried

A monthly selection is a useful chance to discover a different kind of game. It is not a reason to buy a new controller, headset, wheel or screen before learning whether you enjoy the core activity. Begin with a supported working setup, then decide what inconvenience you actually want to improve.

For cooperative play, a second controller may be relevant when the game supports your intended local arrangement. For voice communication, check headset compatibility before ordering. Buying equipment by need makes more sense than treating every subscription month as another shopping event.

If none of these games interests you, that is useful information too. You can keep playing something already in your library. A subscription offering does not require you to rearrange your interests or finish a game you dislike to prove you obtained value from the month.

What to do before November 2

Check your region’s monthly selection, add the eligible games you want and verify the library result. Choose one to install based on your next session. Keep account access and subscription status clear, particularly on a household console where different people make purchases.

After the claim window ends, treat this page as a dated October guide rather than a promise that the same offer remains open. Use PlayStation’s Plus section for later announcements. For a wider choice beyond this month, read what to play on PS5 and keep upcoming releases separate from games you can start now.
